BOARD OF DIRECTORS BIOGRAPHIES


JOHN SOUZA
John Souza started skating at age 6 and enjoyed the sport for his formative years. After serving in the military he taught skating for 14 years. John skated competitively as an adult until a tragic accident left him disabled and unable to skate. He is a regional level judge and has judged and refereed for more than 20 years. He assists his wife to tabulate and has just finished 3 years as the foundation President.

SHARON BEHRENDT
Sharon Behrendt is one half of the team who has won more dance National Championships than any other team in the history of the sport. Sharon has skated with her husband since they were teenagers. She has also won Nationals in figures. She is now retired with her spouse and are leaving Hawaii to live full time in Oregon.


RAY HOSKING
Ray Hosking, long time skater, a coach, and has spent many years in supporting roller sports and its participants. He has a lot of energy and tells us he is enthusiastic about helping the sport of roller skating in the Northwest. Ray has many contacts with corporations and philanthropic organizations in the Northwest. His contacts and people skills will be used to help us find corporate donations that will assist the NWRSF carry out its mission of promoting the sport of amateur competitive roller skating in the Northwest Region.


MARLENE BRULAND
Marlene Bruland has coached for over 50 years with placements and awards in all aspects of the sport. She and her husband were recently inducted into the US Coaches hall of fame. Marlene and her spouse placed at Nationals in Pairs. Marlene has her gold medal in Dance Skating and is very active in precision skating including coaching a NW team.


BILL SPOONER
Bill Spooner skated in the ARSA and won Senior Fours and placed in Junior Men’s Figures, Junior Men’s Free and Junior Pairs all in the same year. Bill has been a World Level judge for 28 years and has judged Nationals for 36 years. He is retired with his wife and live in SW Washington.


MARGE DYKEMAN
Marjorie Dykeman is an icon in the NW Region. She tirelessly volunteers to improve the sport. Fellow skaters and she founded the NWRSF 10 years ago. She is a retired executive from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. She has performed fund raising for the Oaks Skating Club and for the NWRSF. She has been the coordinator of the Oregon State Games for 16 years and is very involved as a volunteer for the Special Olympics.


RON GUSTAFSON
Ron Gustafson began his competitive skating career in 1953 placing second at the Oregon State Championships in the Juvenile Boys figure event. He went on to regional and national contests through 1971. He competed in three different regions - Northwest, Northeast, and Great Lakes. He placed second at the US National Championships in Intermediate Men’s Figures, and placed third in 1967 &1968 in Senior Men’s Figures. He attained gold medal proficiency in figures and dance, and a silver medal in speed skating. He qualified as a judge in all branches of the sport for all levels of competition and proficiency tests. He judged several national and regional competitions, before retiring in 1976 when his career took him to Europe. He returned to the sport in 1997 as a director on the board of the NWRSF. Currently he is serving as President of the board.


JOHN DANNENMANN

John Dannenmann started when he was 11 and was a skate boy at the Oaks. He skated in 4 Oaks shows, John never skated competitively but learned dance and free skating and enjoyed the exercise and camaraderie. John is married and works in the telecom industry and is president of one corporation and COO of another. He is married and has children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
